As you probably know, travel is something that I really love. It has changed who I am as a person, and if you know me at all, you realize that it’s something I love to talk about. I generally go on a couple of domestic trips and one international trip per year, which is probably more than the average Ohioan, but is also significantly less than a lot of people.
When I’m about to leave for a trip and when I’ve just gotten back from a trip, I’m usually asked the same several questions over and over. “Did you like it?” “Wasn’t it expensive?” “How do you afford to go to ___?” “Weren’t you scared?” “Didn’t you feel lonely?” These questions come with several typical comments as well: “I can’t believe you went to ___” is usually followed by either, “I don’t think I’d ever go there” or, “You’re so brave!” I also get a lot of, “Isn’t it _(insert stereotype here)_ in _(insert country here)_?” and “Isn’t ___ a third-world country?”
Because a lot of people seem to have the same questions and ideas, I decided to start a blog to address them. I’m really writing this with my friends and family in mind. I’ll try to share the tips I’ve learned, particularly in the realms of budget travel and basic travel how-tos.
I hope that more than anything, the posts that follow this one will be helpful to people planning trips and will give you encouragement to just start traveling. Please always feel free to comment, ask questions, suggest future topics, and disagree with my opinions. Let’s get going!
